The new Parliament starts work

Next week the new Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) formally take their seats, at a three day plenary (full parliament) session in Strasbourg.

The latest newsletter from the UK Office of European Parliament has a useful summary of what’s going on, and also lists all the new UK MEPs (and points out that 50% of all the MEPs are new).

On Tuesday the MEPs will elect a new president, whilst on Thursday they will formally set up their committees, which is where the bulk of the detailed work of the Parliament is done.
